Two days after we arrived it was Chinese New Years Eve. It is customary to go out for Chinese New Years dinner on the eve and so that is exactly what we did. The dinner was a set course menu with some things I could eat and other I could not. It began with a Malaysian Chinese dish called 'Yee Sang', this dish originated in Malaysia and is only ordered on Chinese New Year and since I have never been to Malaysia during Chinese New Year this was my first time trying it. This dish normally has some sort of raw fish, noodles, sesame seed oil and seeds, fried dough, and veggies. After the dish has been prepared it is brought to the table where everyone is given as set of chop sticks and everyone stands up and starts to toss the all the ingredients together, they believe that the higher you toss the noodles the more luck you will have that year. Because of my short arms I was not able to toss that high so I will be throwing more than just a penny into the fountain this year.

Following the noodles we had shark fin soup except I ordered imitation shark fin soup. I'm told that this expensive and politically incorrect soup is delicious. Heather said it's 'okay' so I'm confident I haven't missed out on anything.

The rest of dinner was pretty standard, veggies, huge roasted pig and some horrible Chinese dessert. After dinner we headed back home to prepare for Chinese New Years!
From Malaysia with love
